Special seasonal features and transformed attractions enliven beloved theme park
A classic addition for the park is the 60-foot Christmas tree on Main Street, along with thousands of sparkling lights and a holiday-themed fireworks show that takes place above Sleeping Beauty’s castle in the evenings. In addition, “A Christmas Fantasy Parade” brings Santa and Mrs. Claus along the parade route to greet visiting families and children.
Some of the park’s iconic rides also get a festive makeover for the holidays. The Haunted House ride is transformed into a scene from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” while It’s a Small World switches from its famous song to a Christmas carol inspired soundtrack. This year, the holiday transformation even extends to the Jungle Cruise, operating as the Jingle Cruise.
Also new this year is a special twist on the “World of Color” show in Disney’s California Adventure Park. The new version, “World of Color – Winter Dreams,” incorporates lights, dancing fountains and Disney characters projected onto massive water scrims, choreographed to holiday songs.
The new Walt Disney Pictures winter-themed film “Frozen” also gets in on the action, adding its characters to the show. Technological advances have also been made to enhance the show, including new high-definition projection technology and the addition of 650 new lights on the California Screamin’ rollercoaster in the background.
To take the show to the next level, guests can even purchase “Glow with the Show” Mickey ears that are synchronized to change colors in time with the show’s performance.
“World of Color – Winter Dreams” will run nightly through January 6, bringing the season to life and enhancing the magic of the winter Disneyland experience.
