It’s almost Mardi Gras Day—don’t miss it!

We’re just a few weeks from Mardi Gras day, which means it is Carnival season throughout Louisiana. Are you ready to finally check Mardi Gras off of your vacation must-do list? Here is a little parade primer so you can know before you go.

Each parade is run by a krewe (pronounced “crew”). Krewes choose a theme each year, and they base costumes and parade float designs around that theme. Many krewes also choose specialized throws to mix in with the bundles of beads and brightly colored doubloons that they toss to paradegoers: the Krewe of Muses throws bejeweled high heels, and the Krewe of Zulu hands out artfully decorated coconuts. No matter what is being tossed by krewe members, they are sure to hear shouts of, “Throw me something, mister!” from the crowd.

Make this the year that you catch Mardi Gras—come be part of the party.
