Several destinations around the country are in their peak season in April and for good reason — this is the best time of year to enjoy local festivals, get outdoors, and live like a local. Here are some of our best places to visit in April.

Washington, D.C.

Make your way to D.C. to be part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The event runs from March 20 to April 15 and includes several family-friendly activities, including a kite festival, concerts and community parties. You’ll not only be treated to the beautiful cherry blossom trees in full bloom but can also enjoy some great food and entertainment around the city.

Every spring, the Coachella Valley attracts thousands of visitors from around the globe for a grand celebration of music and art. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is still one of the most well-well-known and largest music festivals in the world. You’ll get to enjoy the sunny skies and desert of Indio and then head out to Palm Springs to enjoy the variety of great restaurants, go hiking, or enjoy a glamorous shopping adventure. It all takes place on the second and third weekends of April.

Charleston, South Carolina

If you’re a yacht enthusiast, make your way to the beautiful city of Charleston to catch the three-day regatta in the middle of April. If you miss the yachting events, there’s still plenty to see and do during this time of year. Take a guided tour of the historic mansions around the city or catch the Festival of Houses and Gardens that runs through April 21. The port city is also home to Fort Sumter National, the Patriots Point military museum, and the historic Drayton Hall.
