Chic Shopping in Amsterdam

If you’re looking to indulge yourself in Amsterdam, chic shopping is the way to go. These four streets offer some of the best, lined as they are with an enormous variety of luxury goods and unique boutiques.

Negen Straatjes (Nine Streets): This grid of city streets connects the three main canals in the Western Canal Belt – and connects shoppers with the goods they seek. Full of fun shops selling an array of wares, styles, and prices, wanderers here can find unique jewelers, boutiques, and vintage stores as well as art galleries, cafes, and restaurants. And for a post-shopping snack or beverage, the wine, beer, and sandwiches at Brix are sure to please.

Leidsestraat and the Kalverstraat: Located in the city center, these two streets are some of the best known in Amsterdam for shopping. Leidsestraat is the more upscale of the two, while staple European brands can be found at the Kalverstraat, such as H&M, Zara, and Espirit. Other classic shopping routes in the city include Nieuwendijk and Damrak for department stores and boutiques.

The Haarlemmerdijk: Stretching toward Amsterdam Central Station is this long and trendy shopping street. The huge variety of wares here range from shoes and clothes to interior design items and collectibles. Continue onto the Haarlemmerdijk for additional trendy yet affordable shopping – together, the streets host about 235 shops. For a little break, stop in at the café De Oranjerie for a Belgian beer in an art-deco atmosphere.

P.C. Hooftstraat: International fashion houses, high-end shops, jewelers, and upscale shoe stores are the order here, on Amsterdam’s most exclusive shopping street. Designers such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, DKNY, and Ralph Lauren make their homes here, catering to those seeking luxury and upscale goods.
