D-Day Anniversary Sailings from AmaWaterways

Next year will mark the 70th anniversary of the historic World War II D-Day landings in France and, in honor of the occasion, AmaWaterways is enhancing its Paris & Normandy sailings to include two special excursions.

The seven-night itinerary begins and ends in Paris, sailing between April 10 and November 27, 2014 onboard the AmaLegro. To commemorate the WWII anniversary, the itinerary will include two “D-Day Remembered” excursions, both of which begin with a visit to Arromanches, a village that was used in the June 6, 1944, landings. From there, guests have the option to choose a U.S. history-focused excursion or a British and Canadian history-focused excursion. The American-history option visits the D-Day Museum; St. Laurent-sur-Mer, where intense fighting took place at Omaha Beach; and the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, the first U.S. cemetery on European soil.

Guests on the British and Canadian focused tour option will instead visit the landing sites of the British 50th Division on Gold Beach and the Canadian 3rd Division on Juno Beach, where a museum focuses on the contributions of Canadian soldiers during the war. Opportunities are also available to see the Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery, the Memorial Pegasus, and the British Cemetery in Ranville.

Special WWII-themed movies will also be available to guests through their stateroom’s Infotainment systems from April to November. Cruise prices begin at $2,599 per person.
