5 Insider tips for a Montréal vacation

Biki Bike, a bicycle sharing program in Montréal, is a great way to explore the city.
Sometimes referred to as “the other Paris,” Montréal’s café culture and stylish offerings blend the best of European sensibilities and Canadian warmth. Whether you’re visiting the Canadian city on a convenient pre- or post-cruise getaway, as part of a larger Canada tour, or enjoying it all on its own, here are a few ways to enjoy the best of the city.

Getting Around

Montréal is easy thanks to its walkable size and underground Metro. When it’s warm out, make use of the Biki Bike stations located around the city to rent a bike and make your way through town.

Old Montréal

Make a stop in Old Montréal to enjoy a host of delicious restaurants and visit beautiful clothing boutiques, great cafes, and fun wine bars.

Plateau

An interesting neighborhood for a stroll is Plateau, known for colorful homes, unique shops, and sidewalk cafes. The hip neighborhood boasts colorful street murals that are worth wandering around to see.

Hit the Markets

Stop in at one of Montréal’s many markets, called marches publics. A particularly famous one is the Marche Atwater, which features a large and impressive flower section where visitors can get lost in an abundance of freshly-cut flora brought in from around the province. It’s also worth going inside to pick up fresh products ranging from berries to baguettes and cheeses.

Local Tastes

When you’re ready to stop for a beverage or bite, try one a regional specialty such as ice wines and poutine (French fries topped with fresh cheese curds and gravy).
