Family fun in Cape Town

After sunning at Boulders beach in Cape Town, South Africa, visit the penguin breeding area for a special end to the day.
Pristine beaches, visits with penguins, botanical gardens and stargazing – what won’t your kids love about Cape Town? Here are a few ways to fill your family’s vacation days with activities the whole group will love.

Hit the Beach
Beaches are classic family outings for a reason – and Cape Town has a few that are sure to be a hit. Local favorites include Bakoven, St. James and Boulders, which feature smaller beaches and protected coves perfect for exploring and relaxing. St. James beach has a tidal pool for added fun, while Boulders’ penguin breeding area will thrill the whole family.

Learn a Little Something
In the right environment, learning and fun make for great family experiences. Try the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront, where daily predator exhibit feedings take place, as well as shark feedings on Sundays and penguin feedings each day.
At the Iziko Planetarium, kids and adults alike will marvel at the magnificence of the universe, thanks to a celestial theater that provides an immersive audio-visual experience. Shows are offered daily, and make for a particularly good outing on a rainy day.

Enjoy Nature
Head for Newlands, where the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens are the perfect place for families to take in a little nature. Pack a picnic and relax on the grass while the kids climb trees, spot guinea fowl and cool off in the streams.

Grab a Bite
The V&A Waterfront is home to many child-friendly restaurants, as is the beach promenade along Camps Bay, where many cafes serve family fare. To take in the view, order a pizza at Col’Cacchio’s, where summer offers stunning sunset views.
