There’s no shortage of things to do at this destination in the Cook Islands

If you\’re planning a Cook Islands vacation, consider adding Aitutaki to your itinerary – it\’s less than an hour by plane from Rarotonga.
Travelers headed to the Cook Islands should think of adding Aitutaki to their itinerary, an island known for its rich history, romantic aura and unspoiled landscape.

A 50-minute flight from Rarotonga gets you to Aitutaki, and once you’re here, there’s no shortage of things to do.

The island’s rich culture draws on local legend – Aitutakians believe they descended from Ru, a seafaring warrior who is said to have settled on the island with his four wives. For a closer look at Aitutaki culture, an island night floor show is not to be missed. Men dressed in grass cuffs and loincloths stomp their feet and swing their knees, while women move their hips with impossible fluidity. Try Samade on the Beach, which has been known to offer a buffet and show.

For more local culture, take the Aitutaki Discovery Safari, which takes in interesting cultural sites and an inside look at the traditional way in which the islanders live.

Bishops Lagoon Cruises offers a range of itineraries that include sightseeing, snorkeling, wildlife viewing, honeymoon offerings and more. These cruises are a great way to take in the hot spots of the island, and spend some time in and on the beautiful water.
