Norwegian's Breakaway Celebrates New York

Norwegian Cruise Line’s long-awaited new ship, Norwegian Breakaway, is the largest ship to ever homeport in New York City. In honor of this distinction, the ship’s hull is emblazoned with NYC-inspired artwork by Peter Max, bringing the city’s skyline to the high seas.

The New York atmosphere extends to onboard services, including Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian’s Ocean Blue restaurant, Slam Allen’s blues and soul music at the Fat Cats Jazz & Blues Club, and shows from Broadway. Guests can also visit the Sabrett’s hot dog stand and the Ice Bar, featuring sculptures of New York landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge, Chrysler Building, and Statue of Liberty.

Stand out features of the ship include Breakaway’s 27 onboard restaurants, including no-charge dining. The ship offers a wide range of cabin accommodations designed to suit every passenger’s taste and budget. Ranging from economical studios to luxurious staterooms. Example accommodations include family suites of varying sizes, staterooms designed for single passengers, and super spacious and luxurious suites that come with their own 24-hour butler service.

Thrill-seekers will want to check out Sky Trail, a ropes course that features a bungee trampoline, a zipline, and an eight-foot-long plank. The ship also has an Aqua Park, with five multi-story waterslides and The Whip, a twisty competition course.

Breakaway’s design will also be the pattern for three upcoming ships, including January 2014’s Norwegian Getaway, so cruisers will have even more opportunities to experience Norwegian’s updated designs.
