There’s more than sun and sea to enjoy in Myrtle Beach

With a long-standing reputation as a beach vacation destination, it can be easy to spend your days in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina just enjoying the sand and sea. However, take some time away from the beach to enjoy these other great offerings.

Golf: Recognized as the home of some of the country’s best golf courses, Myrtle Beach is a dream destination to work on your swing. The area boasts courses designed by the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Fazio, Greg Norman, Davis Love III, and Robert Trent Jones. Those who want to pick up the sport or polish their technique can even take lessons at one of several golf schools, such as the Classic Swing Golf School.

Shopping: A major draw of Myrtle Beach, shopping options include two large outlets – Tanger North and South – located at opposite ends of town. Barefoot Landing is another good option, with dozens of specialty stores selling unique items. For brand-name shopping, Market Common plays host to such retailers as Williams-Sonoma and Anthropologie.

Brookgreen Gardens: Located 16 miles outside of town, Brookgreen offers a peaceful retreat from the bustle of Myrtle Beach. Set over 9,000 acres of former rice plantation, Brookgreen is now an estate of subtropical gardens that houses the largest collection of American sculpture in the country, as well as the Lowcountry Zoo.

Broadway at the Beach: Full of dynamic shopping, theme restaurants, hot nightclubs, and even a zipline over Lake Broadway, this complex is worth exploring. The Ripleys Aquarium is also located here, with a huge saltwater tank holding thousands of fish.

WonderWorks: Families may want to visit WonderWorks, which features some 100 interactive exhibits to entertain all ages. With the appearance of an upside down mansion, attractions at WonderWorks include a gravity-defying Inversion Tunnel, the WonderSimulators roller coaster designer, the Space Zone, and more.
