5 Insider Tips for the thrift set

Save a few euros on lunch and dinner and shop the local markets Paris.
Paris may not be known as the most budget friendly European destination – but it can make for an affordable vacation as long as you know how to stretch your dollar. Here are some tips on how to get the most bang for your buck while visiting the City of Light.

Research Off-Season Travel Dates
Try to avoid summer vacations and holiday travel if you’re trying to save some cash. Fall is a beautiful time to visit Paris, while visiting in late November or early December can still give you a holiday experience at on off-season travel time.

Rent an Apartment
If you opt for apartment living during your trip, you can usually stay in a prime location at a fraction of the cost of staying in a hotel. An apartment stay also gives you the added benefit of the true local experience – shop at markets for fresh produce and make most of your own meals. You can still treat yourself to some delicious French cuisine – you just won’t have to break the bank for every meal.

Take to the Streets

Paris is best admired on foot. Most tourist books include numerous self-guided walking tours for the must-see highlights of the city. Pick out some of your most desired sites and set off on your own personal tour. Breathe in the fresh air, admire the beautiful architecture and stretch out those legs exploring the city.

Search Online for Discounts
With a little research, travelers can find discounted prices for various museums around the city, and even find free concerts like those occasionally held in Notre Dame.

Embrace Public Transportation
The Paris metro is clean, efficient and easy to navigate. Opt for a package if you are staying in Paris for several days, for multiple metro tickets at a reduced rate. Also, there are several airport shuttle companies out there that are reliable and a fraction of what a taxi would cost you.
