If you’re ready for some sunshine, sand, and lounging this spring, make sure you’re heading to one of the best beaches in country for spring break. The spring break crowds are starting to dissipate which means you can enjoy one of several coastal destinations at your leisure. From California to the British Virgin Islands, here are five of the best beaches to visit in April.

Newport Beach, California

One of the most popular West Coast beaches is the perfect destination for swimming, surfing and sunbathing on any given day. Newport Beach Pier is always buzzing with activity but the area is home to several other beaches that make for a great spring break destination. Herd to Crystal Cove State Park, where you can relax at Pelican Point Beach or Balboa Peninsula Beach for some fun in the California sun.

Tybee Island, Georgia

Located a short drive from Savannah, this barrier island is home to wide, sandy beaches and a pier. You can take a tour of the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum to learn about local history and spend your days relaxing on the beautiful sands around the pier.

Cancun, Mexico

Make the most of your trip to the coastal paradise of Cancun at Playa Delfines. Unlike other Cancun beach surrounded by hotels and resorts, this beach is lined with local food and drink vendors. You’ll have easy access to your favorite refreshments of choice and plenty of space to spread out your towel, beach tent, umbrella, and other sunbathing essentials.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

While there are plenty of beautiful beaches in Cabo, not all of them are truly swimmable. Many beaches are off limits because of the strong currents of the Sea of Cortez. Fortunately, you can find some calmer waters tucked inside some of the rocky bluffs and seashore. Medano Beach is one of them, a popular destination for tourists because of all its restaurants, vendors and beach clubs.

British Virgin Islands

More than 60 islands make up the BVI and you can find dozens of beaches that offer plenty of opportunities for wading, swimming and relaxation. Virgin Gorda is where you’ll want to go swimming between the granite boulders and explore the grottoes and caves. The beach around Devil’s Bay is a popular destination for tourists because it’s so close to the cruise port and is absolutely beautiful in the spring.
