Hit the best of Peru in just over a week

On longer trips to Peru, travelers can add the Amazon, the Galapagos, or even Easter Island to their trip.
In a perfect world we’d all have unlimited time to explore our dream destinations. But you can hit the highlights of Peru in just a little over a week, on the Peru Splendors tour with Globus. The trip includes Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and even Machu Picchu.

Begin in Lima, with a guided walking tour of the city’s historic center, where you sample Amazonian fruit at an outdoor market. Globus peppers its tours with numerous distinctive cultural and historic experiences like this, called Local Favorites. Dinner in Lima might be in a historic residence, chatting casually with your knowledgeable guide.

The next day is a busy one in the Sacred Valley and the colonial city of Cusco. See the Inca ruins of the Sacsayhuamán Temple (c. 1440) high above Cusco, take part in a shaman-led Mother Earth ceremony, visit Inca sites Kenko (aka Q’enko) and Puca Pucara, and shop for handmade alpaca blankets in the mountain village of Pisac.

Machu Picchu has finally arrived! Reach the Lost City by train and bus, then spend all afternoon exploring. Your guide is indispensable here in sharing history and details you may otherwise miss. Globus travelers can stay after the crowds depart, a real treat. An overnight near the site means arriving early the next morning, and again having a nearly private tour of the ruins.

After the heights of Machu Picchu it’s back to Cusco for a day to further explore its historic sites, both with a guide and individually. Now that you’ve gotten a feel for the country, you’re ready tackle a day in Lima on your own before ending your tour.
