Festivals, tournaments and celebrations make the year exciting in the Riviera Maya

Fans of the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico can play at the El Camaleón Golf Club and the Jim McLean Golf School.
While the beautiful beaches and amazing ancient archeology of Mexico’s Riviera Maya might be the area’s main draws, special events held throughout the year make the perfect addition to any vacation itinerary.

Riviera Maya Jazz Festival: One of the area’s most popular events, this Jazz festival is considered to be among the best in the world. The 2013 edition of the three-day festival took place in November and featured such musical legends as Earth, Wind & Fire, Scott Henderson, and Jeff Berlin, among others.

Life and Death Traditions Festival: Considered to be one of the most important artistic events in Mexico, this festival has been called a “Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage” by UNESCO. The annual event takes place in Xcaret over a few days from the end of October to the beginning of November, featuring traditional Day of the Dead altars, theatrical and musical performances, conferences, and poetic recitals.

Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival: Taking place March 13-16, 2014, this four-day foodie fest includes wine and spirit tastings, interactive cooking challenges, a gourmet tasting village, VIP experiences, and more. Top chefs from a variety of countries are scheduled to appear.

Sacred Maya Journey: Be transported back to the world of the ancient Maya at this sacred tradition, marked by a ritual crossing to Cozumel to worship the Goddess Ixchel. The event is celebrated with dances, ceremonies, and rituals that recreate regional history and tradition.

Mayakoba Golf Classic: The OHL Classic at Mayakoba became the first PGA Tour event held outside the U.S. or Canada in 2007. Today, it is the only PGA Tour event in Mexico, and attracts legendary golfers and fans to enjoy the stunning scenery and competitive play of the tournament.
