Colorado’s winter sports playground is a snow-lover’s paradise

For cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, try the four-mile East Inlet Trail in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park

Snow- and sports-lovers alike should make a point to visit Grand Lake, which is considered to be one of Colorado’s top winter sports playgrounds. Located near Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Lake is one of the top destinations for snowmobiling in the country, and offers a variety of other activities as well.

The area’s famous snowmobiling is a must, around the Colorado wilderness or even through the streets of town. There are nearly 300 miles of snowmobiling trails in Grand Lake, roughly 150 miles of which are maintained, making the terrain ride-able for nearly all ages and ability levels.

Another popular activity option in Grand Lake is snowshoeing. Ranger-led snowshoe tours in Rocky Mountain National Park are sometimes offered, and visitors can also explore on their own by picking up trail maps and suggestions at the Kawuneeche Visitor Center.

One of the most easily accessible trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing is the East Inlet Trail, a four-mile, out-and-back trail that ends on the far side of a large open meadow. A side trail en route leads to Adams Falls, which visitors won’t want to miss.
